Stephen Burley, 59, sued the provincial government in 2010 alleging a variety of horrific abuse he says he experienced while a student at two Ontario training schools in the early 1970s. Burley wants the government to publicly acknowledge what went on in these institutions.
Shelly Richardson alleges she was forced to perform sexual acts with three male staff members at Brookside Training School in Cobourg from 1979 to 1981 when she was between the ages of 13 and 15. Richardson, now 51, is seeking a public apology for the alleged abuse she says she, and other students, endured at the provincially run schools.
